Read the ground on one board

Step 1 of 6. Upland has no gauge to read

There is no CFS for a CRP field. What moves roosters is the ground: the wheat coming out, the drought that made the hatch, morning temperatures the dog can work in, the first real snow.

An upland Environment reads the ground instead — crops, drought, scenting conditions, dog safety — over the country you actually run.

Step 2 of 6. New Environment — the tag is optional

New Environment on the web app, name it after the country it covers. The wizard's activity tags do not include an upland option yet — that is fine, the tag only sorts the palette. Skip it, and pull the upland widgets from the palette by name in the build step.

Step 3 of 6. Cover, weather, crops, drought

The sources are the ground itself: your cover pinned as Spots, a weather point over each piece of country, the state's USDA crop-progress feed, and the county drought monitor.

Crop progress and drought are region feeds — no coordinates, no instrument, just the weekly federal series for your state and county. They attach like any other source and get probed the same way.

Step 4 of 6. The dog decides the schedule

Dog Heat Watch is the anchor — it reads the forecast and shades the hours actually safe to run, because no bird is worth a heat-stressed dog. Scent Index scores what the nose will get from temperature and humidity. Crop Progress Tracker watches the wheat come out; when cover disappears, birds relocate, and the board says so a week before your boots do.

Drought Monitor carries the hatch story for the season. No wind widget here on purpose: wind is not one of the factors the upland engine scores, and the board does not sell what the model does not use.

Step 5 of 6. The Covey Board on the same screen

The Covey Board maps every covey you have moved, season over season, next to the conditions widgets that explain them. It is the most valuable thing in the app and it is private to your account — never shared, never aggregated, never sold.

One honest omission on this board: no Snow Push widget, because the Hi-Line prairie has no SNOTEL site nearby, and binding a snow widget to a mountain station two hundred miles away would be a lie with an axis. If your country has a real site, add it.

Step 6 of 6. “Tell me when the wheat comes out”

Two triggers run an upland season. Morning forecast under forty-five — dog weather, go. Harvest progress past your line — the cover is coming out and the birds are about to be somewhere else.

Both are rules on feeds the board already reads. The ground tells you when it changed.
